RE-PARENTING
In therapy we can break the issues that arise for people into those that are intra-relational, our relationship to ourself, mind and body, and those that are inter-relational, those related to relationships with others. One affects the other and can be related to our experience of having needs as children met or not met by parents and primary carers in the past. These early experiences are etched into our nervous system as imprints and belief systems about who we are and what we deserve.

Reparenting happens when we come to realize that as adults we are now responsible for taking care of our own needs. Acknowledging that what we may have been entitled to expect from primary carers as a baby and child is now our responsibility as an adult. This opens up the potential to make decisions that are true to our needs now. This is an empowering process as we become proactive in our own life. This process requires facing these unmet needs with their history of unmet emotions and traumas held in our body due to the fear a child experiences when a safe other isn't there.

The earlier these unmet needs occur the more linked they are to our core sense of self and our worthiness. My right to be who I am, my right to be heard and seen safely, my right to thrive in the world in ways that are true ot me, all stem from this being reflected to us by a significant other. And the good news is it is never too late.

In safe relationship we can learn to express our fears, emotions and hopes and have them validated so they can become integrated into how we experience ourself.

With an integrated sense of self, past trauma's are just that, past, they no longer define how we see ourself. They are no longer a part of us that we feel we need to hide in the hope another will love some image of our self that we feel is acceptable. We can begin to imagine that we are loveable - warts and all. Now, here we can begin to breath easier, in acceptance of ourself.
